I am a wood carving artist from Saint Paul, Minnesota. My passion for woodcarving is all about the search for the mystery of what can be found in a piece of wood. That’s what I want to teach others in my wood carving classes.
At Scott Carvings, I use free form from models in my mind and with the help of other graphics design tools for accuracy and caricature. I show that in all my rough-out designs and the color pictures that comes with each roughout.
There is a genuine treasure that lay deep in the wood. I like to dive as deep as I can to reveal that precious treasure. Each one-of-a-kind carving reflects the eternal spirit that lies in the wood. I use chisels and knives to bring out the wood’s own quiet personality.
I understand what it’s like to be a wood carving student. From my first Santa carving to my latest woodcarving design, I have taken many carving classes from a wide range of instructors (locally and nationally) and studied books, videos and carving magazines. I finish my carvings will many painting and finishing techniques. I have developed my own style of carving and specialize in carving human figures, especially Santa Claus.
